What features does RouteKeeper GPS provide?
RouteKeeper GPS is designed for road trips, wilderness driving, and off-grid navigation. This app can also be used for hiking, mountain biking, or even just to explore your local area. Here are some of the key features:
-
Live map display with your current GPS position, heading, and speed
-
Destination, waypoint, and vehicle markers on the map, so you can visualize the relative position, direction, and distance to them all
-
Compass view — a dedicated panel showing bearing and distance to your Destination, Vehicle(s), and Waypoints at a glance
-
GPS track recording — a breadcrumb trail you can follow on your return trip
-
Auto-track mode — automatically starts recording when internet connectivity is lost, giving you a return path in areas where turn-by-turn navigation won't work
-
Nearby cities panel — shows bearing and distance to the closest towns and cities from your current location
-
GPX import and export — bring in locations and tracks from other mapping apps, or share yours with other programs
-
CloudKit sync — your saved tracks, destinations, and waypoints sync automatically across your Apple devices
Â
RouteKeeper GPS is not a replacement for turn-by-turn navigation apps; it's a complement to them, especially in areas with limited or no connectivity.
Do I need cell service for the maps to work?
No, as long as you have downloaded the maps for offline use. Map imagery requires an internet connection to load. If you're heading into an area without connectivity, set your destination and waypoints before you leave and choose "Download map data for offline use" when adding them. This downloads the map area while you still have a signal, so your map tiles are available later even without a connection.
